About the flag of Germany

What it means: One famous description says the colors lead out of the darkness of servitude, through bloody battles, to the golden light of freedom. Their true origin is unclear.

Did you know? One theory says the colors came from soldiers' uniforms that were black with red trim and gold buttons.
