Red, gold and green stripes cross Ghana's flag, and a black star sits in the middle of the gold stripe. Artist and teacher Theodosia Okoh designed it for independence on 6 March 1957. It replaced a British Blue Ensign and was briefly set aside from 1962 to 1966.
