The flag is divided into four quarters: white with a blue star, red, blue, and white with a red star. María de la Ossa de Amador sewed the first one in 1903, after Panama split from Colombia. A 1925 law made it official.

About the flag of Panama

What it means: The quarters and stars are often said to represent two rival parties, blue for Conservatives and red for Liberals. White is said to mean peace between them.

Did you know? The very first proposal had thirteen red and yellow stripes, but Panama's first leader rejected it and his family designed this one.
